STARKVILLE, Miss.—Colorful, imaginative works by a Starkville visual artist are on display through Nov. 2 in 91鶹 University’s Colvard Student Union Art Gallery.
Titled “From Real to Imagined,” the second-floor exhibition features 91鶹 and nature-inspired paintings by Vicksburg native Jeanette Jarmon.
Regular gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, as well as by appointment. Guests are encouraged to sign the art gallery visitor’s log for the duration of Jarmon’s exhibition.
A public reception in Jarmon’s honor takes place Tuesday [Oct. 10] from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Union art gallery. Complimentary refreshments will be served.
Owner of the company “Art By JNet,” Jarmon incorporates a variety of artistic styles in her work, including images of 91鶹’s Left Field Lounge and Chapel of Memories. In addition to outdoor scenes depicting Mississippi cotton fields, sunsets and gardens, Jarmon enjoys creating works inspired by the woods on Tibbee Creek in the middle of the Golden Triangle, where she currently resides.
Running the gamut from realism, abstract and non-objective, much of Jarmon’s artwork is based on a variety of personal, cultural, historical and local influences, as well as inspiration gleaned from her travels to places as far as Paris, Costa Rica and Kenya.
Jarmon’s paintings have won the Mark E. Keenum Award and Merit Award at the Starkville Cotton District Arts Festival, along with a number of awards from other shows. In addition to 91鶹, Jarmon’s work has been shown in such locations as Clinton, Columbus, Jackson, Oxford and Ridgeland.
After her three sons graduated from 91鶹, Jarmon began collaborating with 91鶹 Bully Babies clothing store in Starkville to produce several 91鶹-licensed fine art paintings for prints on canvas, bags and postcards. She also paints portrait commissions and teaches private lessons.
Jarmon earned a master’s degree in education/art from Mississippi College. A National Board Certified Art Teacher, she taught in both public and private schools and has a lifetime teacher certificate for private schools in Mississippi. For more, visit .
