STARKVILLE, Miss.β91ΒιΆΉΜμΓΐβs theatrical program begins its 2018-19 lineup of productions this week with J.R.R. Tolkienβs βThe Hobbit.β
Theatre 91ΒιΆΉΜμΓΐ will give public performances Thursday [Sept. 27] at 7 p.m. and Sunday [Sept. 30] at 2 p.m. in the McComas Hall theater.
Tickets are available at the box office one hour prior to each show and are $12 for the general public, $7 for 91ΒιΆΉΜμΓΐ students and children 12 years of age and under. Tickets also are available for advance purchase online at .
Tim Matheny, 91ΒιΆΉΜμΓΐ assistant professor of theatre, is directing the performances of Edward Mastβs adaptation of the Tolkien classic. The show features various special effects and involves a cast and crew of 25 91ΒιΆΉΜμΓΐ students working together to bring the world of βThe Hobbitβ to the stage.
βMany people will have read the novel or watched the films,β Matheny said. βThis is a new way for fans to experience Tolkienβs story of adventure.β
Theatre 91ΒιΆΉΜμΓΐ also is presenting matinees for elementary students at local schools. Part of 91ΒιΆΉΜμΓΐβs Department of Communication, Theatre 91ΒιΆΉΜμΓΐ has worked with area teachers to provide complementary educational materials.
